Witness Outreach Nurture (W.O.N.) in Christ Ministry Team

(Church Council)

The W.O.N. in Christ Ministry Team is accountable to and serves as the administrative agency of the church conference, overseeing the administration and organization for ministry of the congregation. It plans and implements programs of nurture, outreach, witness, and resources for the church. It is also responsible for envisioning, planning, implementing and evaluating the mission and ministry for the church. The mission of the church is to make disciples for Jesus Christ and simply put, the purpose of the W.O.N. in Christ Ministry Team is to understand and implement the congregation's vision for accomplishing that mission. The W.O.N. in Christ Ministry Team is composed of the following members:

Staff Pastor Parish Relations(SPPR) Ministry Team

This ministry team is responsible for maintaining the appropriate level of staff; counseling with staff and pastors on issues related to their relationship with the congregation; and correcting any conditions that may impede the effectiveness of ministry. It is mandated that SPPR annually evaluate the pastoral staff, and communicate their findings to the SWTX Conference. SPPR also reviews and updates job descriptions of all other employees as needed, and is developing an appraisal system for more accurately highlighting the extraordinary efforts of our employees. We encourage continuing education for staff as well as pastors and their spouses, and prepare a budget for staff and pastoral salaries.

Finance Ministry Team

The job of the Finance Ministry is to identify, perfect and manage the finance system for the congregation. The finance system incorporates the processes of raising, managing and dispersing the finances so that the mission and vision of the congregation can be achieved. The budget is developed in the Fall from the individual ministry team submissions. The W.O.N. approves the budget. The Finance Ministry meets the 3d Thursday of the month to review income and expenses and the relationship to the budget. Requested fund raising activities are also coordinated through the finance team.

Trustee Ministry Team

The Trustee Ministry Team, subject to the direction of the Charge Conference, is responsible for the supervision, oversight, and care of all real property owned by the church and all property and equipment acquired directly by the church or by any society, board, class, commission, or similar organization connected to the church. Members of the Team serve in elected Classes by year group and serve in three year terms which provide continuity from one year to the next.

In recent years, the Trustee Ministry Team has overseen the renovations of our Sanctuary and Education Building, the purchase of new tables and chairs for both the Fellowship Hall and Education Building, and the resurfacing of the Church Parking Lot. The current team seeks to maintain a hands on approach as evidenced by our recent renovations which have been almost exclusively accomplished by church volunteers, saving the church and its members untold dollars.

Nominations & Leadership Development Ministry Team

The Nominations & Leadership Development Ministry Team is co-chaired by the Senior Pastor and the Lay Leader. The ministry team's primary function is to seek out and nominate motivated and qualified individuals for positions in the church structure. The ministry team formulates a list of nominees for church positions and presents the list at the church Charge Conference. The ministry team is charged with seeking out training opportunities to develop individuals. This includes encouraging attendance at Equipping the Saints, Lay Speaker Training, and other opportunities offered in the District and Conference that will enhance individual skills and understanding.

UCUMC Foundation Ministry Team

The Universal City United Methodist Church Foundation is a Texas non-profit Corporation. It was established in 1989 as a means to provide for the future charitable, educational and religious ministry of our church, as well as for the care of its facilities.

The Foundation receives permanent gifts from individuals and organizations, but only the earnings may be distributed. The principal can never be spent. It is a permanent endowment. The donor, therefore, has assurance that the gift will be a lasting contribution to the church.

Those who give to the Foundation do so to give thanks to God for blessings bestowed, to express their devotion to Christ and to His church, and to honor loved ones whose lives have served as an inspiration.

Memorial Ministry Team

The mission of the Memorial Ministry Team is funding for the enhancement of the sanctuary (permanent finishing and furniture) and other approved church endeavors.

A gift may be made in someone’s honor or memory. All gifts are recognized by a letter from the church to the donor, plus the gift will be recorded in the Book of Memorials permanently located in the narthex.

Missions Ministry Team

This ministry exists to present local, national and international mission projects to our congregation for their support and approval. We present a variety of projects to benefit children, disadvantaged families, young adults, overseas missions and the homeless of San Antonio. We welcome your suggestions for Mission Moments to be considered by this ministry. All the members of this ministry are involved in mission work in our community or teaching classes to children or adults. We live what we believe is God’s purpose for us as Christians. Worship Ministry Team

The Worship Ministry Team seeks to create, develop, and enhance a nurturing, personal worship experience for each person worshipping at UCUMC. We strive to create a worship experience that completely captures the essence of the love and grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through uplifting song, prayer, and scripture.
The ministry team is responsible for obtaining gifts for the congregation for Mother's Day, Father's Day and any other appropriate holidays. The ministry team is also responsible for making sure the correct paraments and banners are in place according to the current church season. In 2006, we held out very first Live Nativity scene,complete with the characters, animals, music, readings, and refreshments for all of our guests. It was a very moving and spiritually uplifting experience for all involved!

Communications Ministry Team

The Communications Ministry Team supports the mission and vision of the church in all of its activities. Our ultimate purpose is communicating the Gospel. We help to do this by trying to make everyone aware of all that is happening in the church and knowing/suggesting the best avenues for people to use for communicating their messages. We view this ministry as facilitative - helping others to determine what and how to communicate, paving the way, and providing helpful guidelines. Some of our ongoing projects include publicity planning, designing and managing the web site, continuous improvement of publications, church signs, encouraging the sharing of information internally and externally and in as many ways as possible, church decals, bulletin boards, and media use and improvements.

We encourage all groups and ministries to write information articles for our community about current happenings and needs they have. We're happy to provide advice or editing. Following a few guidelines will make article writing a breeze.

Sunday Saltshaker– Just the facts, please – who, what, where, when, and a contact person. Space is limited, so 50-60 words or less is ideal.
Saltshaker – These can be a little longer, 75-100 words. Explain a little more about the program or event. Tell the story (a short story, that is). Feature articles are for large events and can be longer.

Care Ministry Team

The Care Ministry Team is a group of willing servants that minister to the hospitalized and homebound by upholding them in prayer and comfort with our presence and assurance. We take Holy Communion to our homebound members periodically and to our hospitalized on Sunday, as they are able.
